SfS Health and Therapy Group Guidelines (free download, MS Word Format, 19 Kb)
There is considerable evidence that using stories in health and therapy settings can have a beneficial and therapeutic effect. However there are a variety of different means that stories can be used and ways that they can impact on the audience. The storyteller working in health and therapy settings needs to be aware of the potential impact of stories for good and for ill.
These notes have been drawn up after Consultation with the SfS Health and Therapy special interest group.

STORY TELLING CENTRE

Members of the board of the Society for Storytelling (SfS) have been working in partnership with MythStories and other story organisations in the Midlands to collaborate on developing the profile of storytelling. The SfS already had its reference library of Folk and Fairy tales based at the MythStories Museum in Wem. Now a consortium of storytelling partners have put together a proposal on the development of a Storytelling Centre in the Midlands, based in and around MythStories in Wem. We would hope that this could be the first of several such centres. The propel document has gone to a board of funders, and various options are being considered.

The proposal document is available here (536K, MS Word format). There will an opportunity for formal feedback and discussion later in the year, but if you have any comments or queries please contact Janet Dowling on jadowling@aol.com
